KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 134,393 tonnes of cargo comprising 75,489 tonnes of import cargo and 58,904 tonnes of export cargo including 4,022 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday.

The total import cargos of 75,489 tonnes comprised of 35,073 tonnes of containerised cargo; 6,641 tonnes of general cargo; 12,478 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 21,297 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 58,904 tonnes comprised of 16,550 tonnes of containerised cargo; 39,154 tonnes of bulk cargo and 3,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 4,022 containers comprising of 1,862 containers of import and 2,160 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,084 of 20's and 375 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 14 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 383 of 20's and 196 of 40's loaded containers while 413 of 20's and 486 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were six ships namely MSC Meava-V, MT Quetta, Southern Dragon, Lausanna, King Boton Rouge and Inaba carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical, clinkers, petcoke and general cargo sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were two vessels carrying soyabean and clinkers respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 118,961 tonnes comprising of 79,441 tonnes of import cargo and 39,520 tonnes of export cargo including 2,310 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 79,441 tonnes includes 32,000 tonnes of coal; 20,186 tonnes of gasoline; 18,000 tonnes of palm oil; 3,825 tonnes of soyabean; 692 tonnes of chemical; 368 tonnes of project cargo and 4,370 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 39,520 tonnes includes 39,520 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 2,310 containers comprising of 230 containers import and 2,080 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

There were two ships namely Express Athens and Tiger Winter carrying containers and chemical respectively sail out to sea on Thursday morning, while three more ships namely Maersk Brooklyn, Inspiration and Imperial Eagle carrying containers, soyabean and coal respectively is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eight ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, general cargo, coal, soyabean, chemical, LPG and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as eleven vessels viz. Express Rome, Rowan-II, Proud Unity, Dona Bibi, Mytro, Chembulk Virgin Gorda, Kamila Kosan, Bubyan, Ploutos, Torm Asfrid and Shalamar carrying containers, coal, soyabean, chemical, gas oil, gasoline and diesel oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were four ships viz. Rowan-II, Proud Unity, Mytro, Chembulk Virgin Gorda carrying coal, soyabean and chemical respectively expected to take berths at Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, Grain & Fertilizer Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Friday.

There are three ships namely CMA CGM Butterfly, Diyala and Safmarine Nyassa carrying containers respectively due to arrive on Saturday.
