ISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation during week ended June 25 against June 18, 2020 on a week-on-week (WoW) basis witnessed an increase of 0.15 percent for the combined income group, from 129.16 points to 129.36 points, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) revealed.

According to the PBS's weekly inflation data released here on Friday, the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) on year-on-year (YoY) basis during (June 27, 2019 to June 25, 2020) witnessed an increase of 10.21 percent, from 117.38 points to 129.36 points.

The PBS has attributed the variations in the SPI to a rise in prices of the following food items: tomatoes 43.57 percent, chilli powder 4.85 percent, potatoes 1.22 percent, eggs 1.04 percent, and onions 0.66 percent, and in non-food items, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) 1.34 percent.

The increase in the prices of above food and non-food items has a joint impact of 0.43 into the overall SPI for the combined group of 0.15 percent.

On the other hand, a decrease was observed in the prices of chicken 4.64 percent, pulse moong 3.09 percent, bananas 2.36 percent, pulse maash 1.60 percent, garlic 0.94 percent, pulse gram 0.65 percent, and sugar 0.10 percent.

During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 14 items (27.45 percent of the basket) increased, while prices of seven items (13.72 percent of the basket) decreased, and prices of the 30 items (58.82 percent of the basket) remained constant.

On YoY basis, prices of the following items witnessed an increase: potatoes 81.09 percent, pulse moong 60.21 percent, chillies powder 58.89 percent, tomatoes 44.60 percent, maash 39.17 percent, eggs 35.62 percent, chicken 34.84 percent, masoor 29.60 percent, vegetable ghee 1kg pack 26.98 percent, vegetable ghee 2.5kg pack 25.70 percent, wheat flour bag 24.08 percent, and cooking oil 5kg pack 19.76 percent. While a major decrease was observed in the price of hi-speed diesel 34.96 percent, petrol 33.59 percent, onions 25.67 percent, electricity for Q1 4.39 percent, and bananas 2.30 percent.

The SPI for the monthly income group up to Rs17,732 registered an increase of 0.37 percent, from 135.51 points to 137.02 points, on WoW basis, and on YoY basis, it recorded an increase of 12.62 percent, from 121.67 points to 137.02 points.

For the income group with monthly income of Rs17,732-22,888, weekly inflation registered an increase of 0.31 percent, from 130.85 points to 131.25 points, while on an annual basis, it witnessed an increase of 11.94 percent, from 117.25 points to 131.25 points.

For the monthly income group of Rs22,889-29,517, the SPI went up by 0.23 percent, from 132.69 points to 132.99 points, while on an annual basis, it went up by 14.67 percent, from 115.98 points to 132.99 points. Weekly inflation for the income group with monthly income of Rs29,518-44,175 went up by 0.17 percent, from 129.18 points to 129.40 points, while on an annual basis, the SPI for the above income group went up by 13.39 percent, from 114.12 points to 129.40 points. For the income group of Rs44,175 or above monthly income groups, weekly inflation registered a growth of 0.09 percent, from 129.39 points to 129.50 points, and on an annual basis, the SPI for the above income group went up by 8.21 percent, from 117.38 points to 129.50 points.
