LETTER: This is apropos a Business Recorder editorial "Death of the 'maverick' of Jamaat" carried by the newspaper yesterday. While shedding light on the student and political life of the former Jamaat-e-Islami emir Syed Munawwar Hassan, the newspaper has made a very important point about him by saying that "higher integrity and greater transparency constituted his personality traits that even his fiercest detractors admired. No doubt Hassan was Jamaat's most recognizable face in Karachi since the exit of party stalwarts such as Mahmood Azam Farooqui and Prof Ghafoor Ahmed from this world."
No doubt the late Munawwar Hassan had immensely contributed to his party's cause in a scholarly manner. That his integrity was behind reproach was also a fact. He was certainly not a power seeker; in fact, he always showed a lack of fear. May God Almighty shower His blessings on the departed soul and give his family and thousands of his admirers fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Aameen.
