KARACHI: Hundreds of labours associated with business of wedding halls and banquets staged protest demonstration on Sunday against the closure of wedding halls in the metropolis, threatening the government of taking things into their own hands, if their demands were not accepted before July 3.
The protesters include caterers, decorators, valet parking employees and wedding photographers who gathered at 5-Star roundabout in North Nazimabad against the closure of wedding halls.
According to details, the protest was organised by the workers of Karachi Marriage Halls Labour Union, demanding reopening of the marriage halls with immediate effect. They said the workers associated with the same profession have lost their jobs due to lockdown.
They argued that when all businesses ranging from Shopping Malls to public transport, from Airlines to NADRA mega centres and cattle markets have been allowed to resume businesses, then why marriage halls or banquets were not allowed to operate under SOPs.
They warned if the government does not announce the reopening of wedding halls by July 3, they will take things into their own hands and resume in business themselves. Due to the protest roads from 5-star roundabout to Sakhi Hassan was blocked for all kinds of traffic. The protesters only allowed ambulances to ply.
