Sugar mills' petition: SGA requests SHC to allow alliance to become a party
KARACHI: The Sindh Growers Alliance (SGA) has filed an application in the Sindh High Court (SHC) to become a party in a constitutional petition filed by the sugar mills against implementation of the Sugar Inquiry Commission report.
A division bench of the SHC is hearing a petition filed by 20 sugar mills of the province against the report of the Inquiry Commission on Sugar and pleaded the court to quash the report.
Last week, the SHC bench restrained the federal government from taking action against these twenty sugar mills of Sindh till June 30, 2020, which has been challenged by the federal government in the Supreme Court.
The SGA and Murid Ali Shah Advocate filed an application as interveners in this petition and pleaded the court to allow them to join as respondents in this petition.
Interveners submitted that they have an interest in the petition in order to protect the growers' livelihood and assist the court in proper, just and fair decision.
