LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shoaib Dastgir has asked the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) to make its coordination more effective with the City Traffic Police (CTP) officials in identifying and impounding vehicles which have not paid its fine tickets (E-challans).

"The PSCA staff should timely inform the traffic police about the vehicles which have been issued E-challans for once or so and those which failed to pay fines timely so that the traffic wardens may stop such vehicles and impound them," the IGP said while addressing a high-level session at the PSCA Headquarters on Tuesday.

Prominent among the participants of the session were PSCA Managing Director AIG Rao Sardar Ali Khan, CCPO Zulfiqar Hameed, Chief Admin officer DIG Kamran Khan, DIG Operations Ashfaq Khan, DIG Investigation Lahore Mian Mehboob Rasheed, CTO Syed Hammad Abid, SSP investigation Zeeshan Asghar and SSP Operations Faisal Shehzad.

Speaking on the occasion, the IG said asked the PSCA officials to make their efforts more effective and speed up actions in order to timely receiving of E-challans by reducing the violations of traffic rules. For the purpose, he announced that the Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Dolphin Force, for now on, will be sitting at the PSCA's Headquarters for the direct monitoring of filed officials.

"Through an LTE enabled phone application, the patrolling location of the officials besides checking of dubious activities and response time of calls on Police Helpline (15) will be directly monitored by the SP at the headquarters," he added.

The IG asserted that immediate and speedy actions should be taken against the motorcycles and vehicles bearing broken and illegal number plates and all the wardens should give proper attention to such vehicles. For complete elimination of kite flying and one wheeling along with complaints of citizens, the safe city should make its monitoring system more proactive so that the violators may be rounded up and put behind bars, he added.

He said the areas where incidents of motorcycle and cars theft occur should be marked as crime hotspots by mentioning the timing of the incidents and their details should be shared with anti-vehicle lifting (AVLS) staff so that an effective strategy could be chalked out by keeping in view the analysis.

The provincial police chief also directed the PSCA officials to conduct a study about high crime areas and share their statistics with the Lahore police so that provision of resources and personnel in police stations along with the patrolling plan may be ensured.
