LAHORE: With 723 fresh Corona positive cases and 46 deaths across the province in the last 24 hours, Punjab has so far reported 75,501 Covid-19 cases and 1,727 deaths so far.

As per the government's Covid-19 portal, about 493,225 tests of coronavirus have so far been conducted across the province with 7729 tests conducted during the last 24 hours.

As per data made available to Business Recorder, as many as 1085 more patients have recovered from the virus taking the tally of recovered patients to 27,147 in Punjab so far.

In Lahore, as many as 39,047 corona positive cases have so far been reported with 675 fatalities. A girl has also died of Covid-19 at Lahore's Institute of Child Health/Children's Hospital. The 11-year-old Maryam is the first child who lost her life due to the coronavirus in Punjab. She was brought from Okara to the Children's Hospital after tested positive for the virus. The illfated girl was bought with co-morbidities and diagnosed with chronic liver disease.

On the other hand, the selective lockdown that was imposed in coronavirus worst-hit areas of Lahore was ended on Tuesday night.

Following surge in Covid-19 cases, as many as 40 entry and exit points of different areas of Lahore were sealed. Sources claimed that smart lockdown proved beneficial in checking the spread of virus in these areas.

Further, the Punjab government has decided to establish an oxygen manufacturing plant in provincial capital following surge in its demand amid coronavirus pandemic. In a briefing the Punjab CM was informed that a large oxygen plant can be established in Rs80 million while a medium size plant can begin working in just Rs 60 million.

The sources claimed that the CM Sardar Usman Buzdar, while deciding to establish a plant instead of purchasing oxygen cylinders from market, approved a pilot project in Lahore and directed Secretary Primary Health to submit a plan within two weeks. It was also decided to establish Oxygen plants in other divisional headquarters if the pilot program in Lahore succeeds.
