KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 126,978 tonnes of cargo comprising 54,757 tonnes of import cargo and 72,221 tonnes of export cargo including 5,157 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargos of 54,757 tonnes comprised of 28,371 tonnes of containerised cargo; 16,337 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 10,049 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 72,221 tonnes comprised of 31,991 tonnes of containerised cargo; 6,700 tonnes of general cargo; 33,530 tonnes of bulk cargo and nil tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 5,157 containers comprising of 1,827 containers of import and 3,330 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 695 of 20's and 550 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 16 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 658 of 20's and 711 of 40's loaded containers while 644 of 20's and 303 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were five ships namely Botany Bay, Cosco Belgium, Louis-P, NACC Poros and Pacific Julia carrying containers, oil tanker, cement and mogas respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There was one vessel carrying containers currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 97,241 tonnes comprising of 71,629 tonnes of import cargo and 25,612 tonnes of export cargo including 1,862 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 71,629 tonnes includes 32,732 tonnes of coal; 10,000 tonnes of gas oil; 4,031 tonnes of gasoline; 8,000 tonnes of palm oil; 5,400 tonnes of soyabean; 1,700 tonnes of LPG and 9,766 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 25,612 tonnes includes 25,612 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 1,862 containers comprising of 514 containers import and 1,348 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There were two ships namely MSC Lisban and Perth-1 carrying containers and coal respectively sail out to sea on Thursday morning, while two more ships namely Express Guemsey and Gas Amazon carrying containers and LPG respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of six ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, soyabean, LPG, gas oil and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as eleven vessels viz. Express Rome, MOL Courage, Dona Bibi, Lila, IVS Naruo, Kamila Kosan, Hanfia Arctic, Shalamar, Torm Astrid, Chemroad Lily and Silver London carrying containers, soyabean, coal, chemical, cement, gasoline, crude oil, diesel oil and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were four ships viz. MOL Courage, Lisa, IVS Naruo and Lila carrying containers, cement and coal respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal and Pakistan International Bulk Terminal respectively on Thursday.

There was one ship namely Lisa carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday while another ship namely CMA CGM Ivanhoe carrying containers due to arrive on Friday.
