LAHORE: Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Sirajul Haq has shown great concern over the rising political unrest in the country and has said the time has approached to shun the old bad practices of 'minus-one' or 'plus one', authorising in true sense the people of Pakistan to choose their leader through a fair democratic process.

Addressing the session of JI Executive Committee (Majlise Aamla) at Mansoora, he said that it was matter of great concern that despite passing of 73 years to the country's independence it had yet to taste the smell of true democracy.

Although every government had paid least attention in strengthening the institutions and resolving the chronic issues of poverty and illiteracy, the present rulers broke all records of bad governance, he said, adding the inflation and unemployment touched the skies and economy was shifted to ventilator. The accountability had become a joke as all claims of the PTI chairman to bring reforms in the anti-corruption regime proved pack of lies, he said.

Sirajul Haq expressed concern over ceasefire violations by India at LoC targeting the civilian population, saying Modi government was bent upon damaging the peace of the region. He said Islamabad should immediately take up matter of Indian unprovoked shelling at international forums. He expressed regret over Indian atrocities in the Occupied Kashmir, demanding the international community to take notice of the worst human rights violation in the occupied area.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Milli Yakjehti Council will meet President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi to discuss steps for creating sectarian harmony in the country, said Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Emir Liaqat Baloch.

Talking to different delegations at Mansoora on Saturday, he said that fragile economy had made it impossible for the poor and middle class to make their both ends meet. The President, he added, will be apprised of the situation and recommendation will be forwarded to him to turn Pakistan an Islamic welfare state.

He expressed regret over the silence of international community over the atrocities being committed by the Indian forces in held Kashmir.

Baloch sent condolence messages to the families who lost their dear ones in van-train accident near Sheikhupura and called for bringing reforms in Pakistan Railways.
