ISLAMABAD: The federal government has devised a strategy to enhance Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds by 2,500 in various hospitals across the country, which would be completed in two phases by the end of July 2020.
According to a spokesperson of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the first phase of the project has been completed on July 5, 2020, with the installation of 1,434 ICU beds, and installation of 1,066 ICU beds would be completed by July 31, 2020.
The NDMA spokesperson further said that the authority on Tuesday handed over 40 ICU and 80 Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiBAP) ventilators to Balochistan government to assist healthcare units in their fight against the COVID-19.
The spokesperson said some 2,000 nasal cannulas, 200 finger pulse oximeters, 150 ICU beds, and 200 oxygen cylinders had been dispatched to Balochistan to help combat COVID-19 pandemic.
The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) Tuesday said over 7,494 violations of health guidelines were noted during last 24 hours across Pakistan.
According to the NCOC, in consequence of the violations, more than 604 markets and shops, and 981 transporters, were fined and sealed as per the violation. However, the provincial governments including the AJK, the GB, and the ICT were making all out efforts to enforce health guidelines and compliance of instructions for public safety and well being to contain coronavirus spread.
According to the latest data issued by the NCOC and the provincial health authorities, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Pakistan has reached 235,872 of which 134,957 have recovered, while 4,880 people have died.
Punjab has recorded 706 new coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours, according to the government's Covid-19 portal, taking the provincial tally to 82,669.
The province also recorded 15 additional fatalities, taking the death toll to 1,889. According to the portal, 47,054 patients have recovered from the virus in the province so far. The Sindh chief minister said on Tuesday that 1,388 more people had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, raising the provincial tally to 97,626.
In a statement issued from the CM House, the chief minister also said that 42 more people had died from the virus in the last 24 hours.
The death toll in the province now stands at 1,614.
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has reported 120 new cases in the province taking the provincial tally to 28,236 cases. According to the KP Health department during past 24 hours, 10 more persons have lost their lives owing to Covid-19 infections, which took the provincial death toll to 1,038.
The provincial health department has also reported that 121 patients have recovered taking the tally to 16,549.
The Balochistan government has reported 27 new cases of Covid-19, taking the provincial tally to 10,841.
So far, 124 total Covid-19 deaths have been reported, and 6,131 people have recovered from the disease.
Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir have collectively reported 130 new Covid-19 cases and five deaths.
In Islamabad, 63 new cases were reported taking total number of Covid-19 cases in the Federal Capital to 13,557, and district administration reported three more Covid-19 deaths, which took the total deaths to 140 in the federal capital.
The Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) reported 26 new coronavirus cases, taking total to 1,587. The GB also reported two new deaths taking the total to 30.
So far, 1,224 people have recovered from the virus in GB areas. The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) reported 41 cases taking the toll to 1,383, of which 36 people have lost their lives, while 741 people have recovered from the disease.
