KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 168,520 tonnes of cargo comprising 97,343 tonnes of import cargo and 71,177 tonnes of export cargo including 8,152 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargos of 97,343 tonnes comprised of 61,911 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,191 tonnes of general cargo; 3,702 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 27,539 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 71,177 tonnes comprised of 43,440 tonnes of containerised cargo; 6,670 tonnes of general cargo and 21,067 tonnes of bulk cargo.

As many as 8,152 containers comprising of 4,215 containers of import and 3,937 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,291 of 20's and 1,368 of 40's loaded while 56 of 20's and 66 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,171 of 20's and 829 of 40's loaded containers while 308 of 20's and 400 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were two ships namely KMTC Dubai and Xin Shanghai carrying containers, clinkers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were four vessel carrying containers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 146,984 tonnes comprising of 100,408 tonnes of import cargo and 46,576 tonnes of export cargo including 3,843 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 100,408 tonnes includes 21,098 tonnes of coal; 2,078 tonnes of gas oil; 5,692 tonnes of palm oil; 8,030 tonnes of soyabean; 69 tonnes of LPG; 9,500 tonnes of chemical and 53,941 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 46,576 tonnes includes 9,500 tonnes of cement; 18,000 tonnes of crude oil and 19,076 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,843 containers comprising of 2,839 containers import and 1,004 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There were two ships namely MSC Marianna and Chemroad Sirius carrying containers and chemical respectively sail out to sea on Wednesday morning, while another ship namely Great Comfort carrying coal is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of nine ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, steel coil, coal, soyabean, cement, LPG, LNG, crude oil, gas oil and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as thirteen vessels viz. Express Rome, BBC Song, PAC Antares, Alexandra, Gulf Mews, Chemroad Journey, Kamila Kosan, Golar Maria, Hanfia Arctic, Al-Salam-II, Gulf Horizon, Ventage Rider and SC Petrel carrying containers, general cargo, steel coil, soyabean, LNG, gasoline, gas oil, palm kernel and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were two ships viz. Gulf Mews and Golar Maria carrying chemical and LNG respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Engro Elengy Terminal respectively on Wednesday.

There are two ships namely CMA CGM Ivanhoe and Maersk Bentonville carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday.
