KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Thursday directed heads of all concerned departments to achieve their revenue target at any cost and prepare quarterly report.
Strict action would be taken against those heads who don't meet their target. Competent officers should be appointed who help the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation meeting its revenue target.
The Mayor passed these remarks while directing heads of different departments regarding revenue target. Akhtar asked them to start working for the target as its just beginning of the new fiscal year.
He directed Municipal Utility Charges Tax (MUCT) department to dispatch bills to the residents and ensure their payments by awaring the people.
Talking about expected revenue from different departments for FY 2020-21, mayor said Rs 1232.56 million would be generated from MCUT, Rs 205 million from veterinary services, Rs 81.5 million from engineering department, Rs 72.5 million from medical and health services, Rs37.9 million from parks and horticulture; Rs 15.6 million from enterprises and investment promotions and Rs 1.185 million from secretariat.
"The economical condition of the department could only be stable if all revenue targets are achieved. The officials should work tirelessly so that the target could be achieved," he added.
Akhtar said in 2019-20, KMC received only Rs 625 million out of allocated Rs 3,333 million from the provincial government for Annual Development Program. He added the Sindh government allocated Rs 2500.5 million for KMC and if the same amount is released, many uplift projects in Karachi would be completed.
Akhtar was of the view that increase in salaries also burdened the KMC as the provincial government every year enhanced the employees' salaries but didn't provide KMC more amount for the same purpose.
"Karachi contributes major chunk not only in economy of Sindh but also Pakistan but unfortunately in return it gets nothing," he added.
