LETTER: This is apropos a Business Recorder news item "PIA pilots: Steps taken to stop the rot: minister" carried by the newspaper yesterday. According to it, federal minister for aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan has told National Assembly that criminal proceedings will be initiated against 28 pilots of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) who have been terminated from service while action has been initiated against a total of 54 pilots for holding fake licences.
The report, however preliminary into the Karachi plane crash, has laid bare weaknesses and inefficiencies in the system, which can't be swept under the rug. The government had to take a tough decision, and it has taken it. Although the situation is very unpleasant, it must be accepted.
