Despite receiving additional furnace oil and gas load shedding, the K-Electric continued load shedding in Karachi in the name of technical malfunction and load management.

As per details, 10 to 12 hours of daily load shedding has become the norm in different parts of Karachi at night, despite receiving 800 MW of additional electricity.

Areas including Liaquatabad, old city areas i.e. Saddar, Korangi, Landhi, Gulshan-e-Hadid, North Karachi, Lyari, Kemari, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Defense, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Kharadar, Baldia, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Surjani Town, and Orangi Town were marred by power outages.

According to experts, the poor transmission system of KE and the reduction in production is the main reason for the power outage.

Earlier, Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan blamed KE for not improving its system, which has lead to power outage issues in Karachi, saying that the government would help the company improve its capacity.

Responding to a calling attention notice, Omar Ayub Khan on Thursday said that the federal government has taken steps to improve the power supply in Karachi in order to address the problems of the people of the provincial capital.

The minister told the House, that they are providing an additional 100 megawatts of electricity to the KE, which is more than the contract agreement signed with it. The minister added that the government will provide more gas to the KE, which will result in generating 200MW of electricity.
