Hussain wants Denly to tweak his technique in order keep place in England team
Former England captain Naseer Hussain believes the top-order batsman Joe Denly has to improve his technique in order to keep his place in the national team.
The 34-year-old scored 18 runs before getting dismissed on the in swinging delivery in the first innings of the ongoing Test match between England and West Indies on Thursday.
Hussain expressed his opinion about the right-hander in the column for Daily Mail.
“Denly has to believe that a tweak can be made, even while he accepts the risks that come with it,” wrote Hussain. “After training the brain for years about where his off stump is, a change of guard may confuse him about which balls to play at and which to leave. But the reality is that if he does not adapt quickly, the best bowlers are going to keep finding him out. Test cricket can be a ruthless business. Denly has to adapt — and he has to adapt now.”
Denly does not have a great record in the five-day format for England where he averages 29.55 with just six half-centuries after 27 innings.
