KARACHI: Capt A Moiz Khan, patron-in-chief of the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), and association's president Nasim Akhtar have expressed deep concern over three days a week gas shutdown for industries by the SSGC and demanded uninterrupted gas supply.

They said that the government must know that due to power loadshedding in the industries, the production activities were already hampered. In such cases, shutting down gas supply would completely stop the production process which would have a very negative impact on the country's exports.

NKATI leaders asked the government if it wanted them to shut down the industries as there had been repeated attempts to have the industries shut down under various pretexts. K-Electric cut off supply of electricity to the industries three to four days a week, and it had also announced an eight-hour shutdown of factories.

The Sui Southern Gas Company had also announced cutting off of gas supply to industries three days a week. If the supply of electricity and gas to industries was continuously cut off, it would become impossible for the industries to function.

It seemed that industries were no longer the first priority of the government. The exporters had been taking export orders, but how would they deliver the goods on time if industries were not supplied with gas and electricity.

Capt. A Moiz Khan and Nasim Akhtar asked the government to tell them whether the industries were government's first priority or not and whether the industries of Karachi would be provided with any kind of facilities.

NKATI leaders demanded withdrawal of the decision of three-days-a-week gas loadshedding in the industries.
