A long-standing demand of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) for promotions of colleges' teachers under timescale formula has been turned down by authorities concerned, it is learnt. The SPLA has been demanding for promotions of teachers under timescale formula for the last many years so that faculty members of colleges could get timely promotions.
Professors and lecturers have expressed their grave concern over the attitude of the education department of Sindh in terms of not providing basic facilities to the college teachers. Though the Punjab government has taken few steps to facilitate the college teachers, teachers of Sindh Government colleges were of the view that education department had adopted inappropriate polices towards education system.
The SPLA demands the implementation of timescale formula as teachers for the last 15 to 20 years have been waiting for their promotion and regularisation. Cancellation of 414 transfers of teachers which according to SPLA were based on malafide intensions instead they demand a proper policy in this regard. Hostels should be provided for teachers within or outside the college premises in remote areas of Sindh.
The SPLA wants that a clear policy for posting of a teacher should be adopted, withhold salaries of teachers released immediately, due promotions given to reserved teachers and 3,500 vacant seats of professors should be filled immediately. Professor Iftikhar Azmi, Central leader SPLA, said that his association had kept three core issues in its charter of demands, which included implementation of timescale formula, revise of pay scale and removal of shortage of teachers in colleges.
