KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 180,411 tonnes of cargo comprising 119,964 tonnes of import cargo and 60,447 tonnes of export cargo including 6,808 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.
The total import cargos of 119,964 tonnes comprised of 56,353 tonnes of containerised cargo; 35,652 tonnes of general cargo; 6,811 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 21,148 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargos of 60,447 tonnes comprised of 42,165 tonnes of containerised cargo; 08 tonnes of general cargo and 18,274 tonnes of bulk cargo. As many as 6,808 containers comprising of 3,953 containers of import and 2,855 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 963 of 20's and 1,461 of 40's loaded while 10 of 20's and 29 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 686 of 20's and 682 of 40's loaded containers while 221 of 20's and 292 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were six ships namely Ulanga, Sima Sahba, Charlotte Schulte, Hong Kong Express, Briolette and Bulk Bolivia carrying containers, oil tanker and clinkers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels carrying containers, oil tankers and cement respectively currently at the berths.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 213,086 tonnes comprising of 178,715 tonnes of import cargo and 34,371 tonnes of export cargo including 4,394 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The total import cargo of 178,715 tonnes includes 35,000 tonnes of coal; 20,268 tonnes of LNG; 54,000 tonnes of furnace oil; 16,500 tonnes of palm oil; 5,000 tonnes of soyabean; 2,632 tonnes of chemical and 45,315 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo of 34,371 tonnes includes 34,371 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 4,394 containers comprising of 2,585 containers import and 1,809 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
There were three ships namely MOL Globe, Maersk Denver and Golar Ice carrying containers and LNG respectively sail out to sea on Thursday morning, while three more ships namely MSC Heidi, MT Karachi and Mega-1 carrying containers, furnace oil and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of nine ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, soyabean, LNG, furnace oil, palm kernel and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
As many as thirteen vessels viz. Athenian, Le Li, Da Kang, Chayanee Naree, Green Witch Eagle, White Fin, Tomson Gas, Gas Amazon, Amber, Al-Soor-II, Al-Salam-II, Gulf Horizon and UACC Marah carrying containers, general cargo, steel coil, coal, cement, LPG, gasoline, gas oil and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
There were four ships viz. Athenian, Tomson Gas, Amber and UACC Marah carrying containers, LPG, gasoline and palm oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, SSGC LPG Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Thursday.
There was one ship namely Maersk Brooklyn carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday while another ship namely CMA CGM Mollere carrying containers due to arrive on Friday.
There are three ships namely Safmarine Ngami, Diyala and Gwon carrying containers and project cargo respectively due to arrive on Saturday.
