Former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday underlined the importance of parliament and said that Constitution was supreme, but it was parliament that made it. Before departing for Khanewal at the Lahore Railway Station, Gilani told reporters that his government had ensured parliament's stability and restored the Constitution in its original form.
Rejecting the notion that Pakistan was a failed state, he said that one prime minister went out, another came in. The former prime minister said that Pakistan People's Party remained the country's only federal party. He stated that PPP had majority in the Senate and if some other party gained majority in national polls, it would be only confined to the National Assembly. Regarding future polls, Gilani said that he did not forsee much changes occurring in this regard.
Giving his views regarding Defence of Pakistan Council's (DPC) long march on the Nato supply issue, he said that most of them were chronic 'jihadis'.
He pointed out that Nato supply had not been closed as and when asked by DPC nor it had been restored on their demand. He said that DPC marchers would be provided water and other facilities.
On the dual nationality issue, Gilani said that consultations would be held on this issue.
Regarding the issue of the contempt of court, Gilani said that if parliament wanted to bring a positive change in it, then it had the right to do so. He opined that political forces would play a positive role in building democracy in the country.
