LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Trade and Industries Mian Aslam Iqbal has directed the steel melters to install air pollution control devices in their steel melting units to get rid of pollution.
He was talking to a delegation of Pakistan Steel Melters Association (PSMA) that met him here Saturday. PSMA Chairman Mian Rehman Aziz who was leading the delegation discussed the matters relating to issuance of notices issued by Punjab Environment Protection Department.
The delegation members assured the minister of installation of air pollution control devices in all the units within 90 days. Director General Environment Protection Department Ashar Zaidi, Deputy Secretary Trade and Industries and other officials concerned were also present on the occasion.
Mian Aslam Iqbal said there would be no compromise on the issue of pollution adding that every segment of the society would have to play its role for eradicating pollution. The minister warned that action would be taken against those who would not install such devices in steel melting units.
The Minister also directed the Environment Protection Department for remapping of the furnace, steel melting units and steel re-rolling mills and resolve the issue in consultation with the stakeholders.
