KARACHI: Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Siraj-ul-Haq on Saturday questioned transparency of the country's accountability system following the Supreme Court's remarks on the NAB probe mechanism. Addressing a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq, Siraj also termed the PTI govt's two years of rule as 'disappointing' saying that the people are asking about spending of the Covid-19 funds of Rs12 billion.

He said the accountability of ruling PTI is a joke in the name of answerability, adding that the Supreme Court's remarks about the NAB are a 'sheer' reflection of the public sentiment. He said that the past and present governments have used the courts for their own vested interests.

Siraj said the public wants the establishment, judiciary and the election commission should remain 'impartial' so that the nation could have a trust on the polls. He also vowed to resist the government's move of privatizing the country's biggest - Pakistan Steel Mills.

"We will not let the [steel mills] employees alone," in the crisis, Sirj said. About the over billing of electricity issue, he said the government and Nepra - both have failed to control inflated bills to the consumers. He asked the government and Nepra to take practical steps instead of issuing notices to the power supply company.

He, was flanked by the party's high-ups including Liaquat Baloch, Asad Ullah Bhutto, Syed Abdul Rasheed, and others, demanded that the K-Electric should be brought into the government's custody with carrying out a forensic audit. He also announced to mark the Aug 5 as the black day to support the Kashmir cause and show solidarity with the Kashmiris across the country.
