LETTER: This is apropos a Business Recorder editorial "NAB put on the spot" carried by the newspaper on Saturday. I endorse newspaper's argument that it has painstakingly advanced against National Accountability Bureau (NAB). But I, do not agree with its conclusion that "Considering that no other functioning democracy has an anti-graft organisation like NAB, a better solution would be to do away with it and let the other relevant agencies, such as the FIA, grapple with issues of corruption".
In my view, it is no solution. Shutting down NAB will promote corrupt practices. What is required is massive improvement in the anti-corruption law. Efforts must be made to strengthen NAB's investigation and prosecution wings. We must lose sight of the fact that corruption has already exacted a heavy toll on this poor nation.
