LAHORE: The opposition on Monday criticised the treasury benches for adjourning Punjab Assembly's session till August 7, terming it unconstitutional.
The House was chaired by Panel of Chairman Mian Shafi Muhammad in absence of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Opposition Leader also attended the proceeding.
Khalil Tahir Sindhu of the PML-N alleged that on the request of the Punjab information department the government decided to adjourn the House till August 7 which is an unconstitutional action and in violation of the Assembly's rules of business. He pointed out that as per the Constitution the House's session cannot be adjourned for more than two days, he added.
He also said that the government also did not follow the procedures for the legislations which again is unconstitutional. Responding to the objection, Punjab Prosecution Minister Chaudhry Zaheeruddin said that the House is adjourned as per the parliamentary rules and thus the government has not violated any rules. He told the House that between July 28 and August 6 no MPA will receive travel and daily allowances. "To complete the mandatory days (100) of the parliamentary year, it was necessary to adjourn the House till August 7," he added.
On the occasion, questions hour secession on the information and culture department was held. Later, the Chairman adjourned the House till August 7.
