ISLAMABAD: A joint-sitting of the Parliament is likely to be held today (Thursday) for an important legislation to fulfill certain conditions listed by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Many government bills, which have been passed by the National Assembly, are stuck up in the Senate because of the domination of the opposition parties in the Upper House of the Parliament.

The government plans to table such legislations in the joint parliamentary session.

According to the sources, the National Assembly Secretariat has transmitted seven bills for the consideration of joint sitting of the Parliament, which have been passed by the National Assembly but failed in obtaining approval of the Senate.

They said that "The Mutual Legal Assistance (Criminal Matters) Bill, 2020" was also part of the seven bills which would be submitted to the joint sitting of the Parliament. They said that the bill provided legal support to the requesting state (foreign country) by executing necessary actions on its territory in criminal cases warranting shared assistance.

They said that the bills were required to become act since the Financial Action Task Force (FATF)'s Asia-Pacific Committee will review legislation made by Pakistan next month, and it would submit its report to the preliminary of the FATF to be held in October this current year.

They said that the legislation would help the country come out from the FATF "grey list".

The sources said that the seven bills were part of the agenda for the joint sitting.
