KARACHI: Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal on Friday urged the Prime Minister Imran Khan to use his constitutional powers for a permanent way out, instead of finding a temporary solution to Karachi's problems.

He recommended the premier to take the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa into confidence and meet the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in the presence of media in order to have problems fixed.

PSP chief expressed these views while addressing a meeting on post-rain scenario of the metropolis with a delegation of business community at Pakistan House. The poor socio-economic situation of the port city has now not only become problematic for its dwellers, but also become crucial for the security perspective.

For 30 years, Kamal said, the enemies of Pakistan have been exploiting the sense of deprivation prevailing amongst the residents as a tool for terrorism. It would be detrimental to the country to take temporary measures by activating the Armed Forces of Pakistan and the National Disaster Management Authority.

Therefore, instead of performing cosmetic surgery on the city, Prime Minister Imran Khan should get to the root of the problem and get the necessary information and formulate a permanent strategy. In Karachi, Kamal said 12,000 tonnes of garbage is generated on a daily basis, the drains are filled with silt and there is no space left for water to pass through them.

After a cleanliness campaign, the situation will return to normal in a few weeks. The Sindh government should not be left to its own will. The PPP knows that they do not have a mandate in Karachi and their Mayor cannot be elected, so they divided Karachi into six districts which is a clear reflection of prejudice towards Karachi.

In addition, six more chairmen were formed, districts were arbitrarily created and the war of occupation of Karachi was initiated. This mismanagement must come to an end, just as the division of Sindh is unacceptable, so is the partition of Sindh's capital, Karachi. The mayor of the city should be responsible for the administrative affairs of the city.
