KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 120,717 tonnes of cargo comprising 87,912 tonnes of import cargo and 32,805 tonnes of export cargo including 4,567 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargos of 87,912 tonnes comprised of 34,031 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,247 tonnes of general cargo; 1,646 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 46,988 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 32,805 tonnes comprised of 28,441 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,364 tonnes of bulk cargo and nil tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,567 containers comprising of 2,393 containers of import and 2,174 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 482 of 20's and 828 of 40's loaded while 41 of 20's and 107 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 829 of 20's and 361 of 40's loaded containers while 33 of 20's and 295 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were three ships namely OOCL Chicago, Lilac Roy and V-Fulmar carrying containers, chemical and clinkers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were five vessels carrying containers, oil tanker and cement respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 76,833 tonnes comprising of 50,541 tonnes of import cargo and 26,292 tonnes of export cargo including 1,334 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 50,541 tonnes includes 13,000 tonnes of coal; 12,500 tonnes of palm oil; 6,750 tonnes of mogas; 10,000 tonnes of canola; 444 tonnes of project cargo and 7,847 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 26,292 tonnes includes 8,793 tonnes of cement and 17,499 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 1,334 containers comprising of 413 containers import and 921 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

There were two ships namely MSC Chiara and Gwen carrying containers and general cargo respectively sail out to sea on Tuesday morning. A total number of seven ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, project cargo, coal, canola, LPG and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as eight vessels viz. Northern Jubilee, Soho Mandate, African Paza, Sea Fortune, Gas Zeus, Epic Salina, Nord Merker and Till Jocob carrying containers, coal, cement, chemical, LPG, mogas and gas oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were five ships viz. Northern Jubilee, Maersk Kensington, Soho Mandate, Sea Fortune and Borneo carrying containers, coal, chemical and LNG respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and Engro Elengy Terminal respectively on Tuesday.

There were three ships namely Hansa America, Maersk Kensington and Borneo carrying containers and LNG respectively due to arrive on Tuesday while another containers ship namely X-Press Guernsey due to arrive on Wednesday.
