KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 163,810 tonnes of cargo comprising 133,449 tonnes of import cargo and 30,361 tonnes of export cargo including 7,587 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargos of 133,449 tonnes comprised of 69,545 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,121 tonnes of general cargo; 2,315 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 54,468 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 30,361 tonnes comprised of 22,370 tonnes of containerised cargo; 180 tonnes of general cargo and 7,811 tonnes of bulk cargo.

As many as 7,587 containers comprising of 5,310 containers of import and 2,277 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,235 of 20's and 1,734 of 40's loaded while 43 of 20's and 282 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 644 of 20's and 378 of 40's loaded containers while 161 of 20's and 358 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were four ships namely Ever Deluxe, CMA CGM Moliere, Manet and Pacific Rowan carrying containers and mogas respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were seven vessels carrying containers, oil tankers, soyabean and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 237,784 tonnes comprising of 210,495 tonnes of import cargo and 27,289 tonnes of export cargo including 3,322 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 210,495 tonnes includes 42,083 tonnes of LNG; 53,500 tonnes of coal; 18,000 tonnes of palm oil; 26,593 tonnes of mogas; 18,144 tonnes of canola; 4,941 tonnes of chemical and 47,234 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 27,289 tonnes includes 11,405 tonnes of cement and 18,884 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,322 containers comprising of 2,486 containers import and 836 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There were two ships namely Northern Jubilee and Sea Fortune carrying containers and chemical respectively sail out to sea on Wednesday morning, while four ships namely Sun Globe, Caribean-1, BW Amazon and Asia Inspire carrying coal, chemical, mogas and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eleven ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, cement, chemical, canola, LPG, mogas and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as six vessels viz. African Paza, Gas Chem Doll, Gas Zeus, Epic Salina, Nord Merkur and Till Jocob carrying cement, chemical, LPG, mogas and gas oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were three ships viz. X-Press Guernsey, Epic Salina and Nord Merkur carrying containers, LPG and gas oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, SSGC LPG Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Wednesday.

There were one ship namely X-Press Guernsey carrying containers due to arrive on Wednesday while two more containers ships namely Maersk Bentonville and Aristomenis due to arrive on Thursday.
