ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday said if the prime minister along with the Punjab chief minister had appeared before the inquiry commission probing sugar crisis, the country would not have faced flour crisis.
In a meeting of the joint parliamentary party meeting chaired by party president Shahbaz Sharif, the party flayed the looming flour crisis in the country.
The party said petrol, flour, sugar, and plunderers of national wealth were wandering scot-free, paving the way for these crises.
The party openly said the country had been made a hostage by the mafia, which were neither ready for accountability, nor considered themselves accountable before the nation.
The party also said possibility of hoarding of wheat could not be ruled out, as people facing cases before the top anti-graft body had been made in-charge of the food ministry in Punjab, which was the bread basket of the country.
The issue of Kashmir also came under discussion and the illegal annexation of Kashmir by India on Aug 5, 2019, was termed a cowardly approach of the neighbouring country of creating anarchy in the region through war.
It also demanded that concerted efforts should be taken to expose human rights crimes being committed in illegally occupied Kashmir by Indian troops as life had completely been brought to a standstill due to curfews in the valley.
The party also condemned the unprovoked firing at the LoC by India, saying such incidents could be extremely dangerous for the peace of the region, as killing of innocent citizens was not acceptable.
The meeting also condemned unprovoked firings at Chaman, and attacks at Pakistani check posts by the Afghan forces, and called upon Afghanistan not to disturb peace through such actions, as these things would have serious repercussions.
The meeting also declared a statement by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi about Saudi Arabia, saying it was highly 'irresponsible' and the minister should know Riyadh always stood by Islamabad, whenever it was in trouble.
The PML-N also expressed concern over the 'economic disaster', and said the forecast by all international monetary institutions that up to 1.5 percent contraction for the outgoing fiscal year was quite worrisome.
The party also accused the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of missing annual targets for economic growth and investment, adding low investment and saving rates were the two structural issues, which had constrained the country's economic growth.
The party lauded a recent report of the Human Rights Watch (HRW) which called upon the government to stop using the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as a tool for political witch-hunt.
Talking to journalists outside the parliament house, the lawmakers belonging to different political parties especially the opposition, said that the PTI had failed to fulfill its promises made with the nation before coming into power.
