KARACHI: Veteran journalist and editor-in-chief of Daily Jasarat, Athar Ali Hashmi has passed away peacefully here on Thursday. He was 74. Hashmi's funeral prayer was offered at Masjid Shahbaz in Block 12 Gulistan-e-Jauhar and later he was laid to rest in Sakhi Hassan graveyard amid tears and mourning.
Hashmi's journalism career spanned over four decades. He was not only a teacher of Urdu, but also one of the individuals who taught journalism to the youth. He has left behind a widow and three sons.
The funeral were attended by a large number of people including the family, relatives, leaders of political, social and religious parties, senior journalists, newspaper editors, businessmen etc.
The Journalists fraternity including Karachi Union of Journalists Dastoor, (KUJ-D) Karachi Press Club (KPC) president Imtiaz Khan Faran and secretary Arman Sabir have expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise of Hashmi, and expressed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
