ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of the terminated daily wage employees of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) continued their protest for the second day and demanded their restoration.

Around 700 daily wages employees continued their protest outside the AIOU and strongly condemned the decision of the university administration.

The protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands.

They said the daily wage employees had worked at the university for years but suddenly their services had been terminated and they had become jobless.

They said protest will be continued till the fulfillment of their demands.

The AIOU in its official statement released, had stated that it had advertised more than 200 vacancies in the second phase of the regularisation of services of its temporary employees. It said the temporary employees were hired for 59 days as per the need and requirements of various services departments.

At present, more than 250 temporary workers are serving in various departments.

It added that the renewal of the hiring of such employees depends on further needs, and requisition from the concerned departments.
