Three killed in police firing after protests erupt over anti-Islam social media post in India

(Karachi) At least three people were killed when protesters clashed with police in India's Bangalore city over a provocative social media post about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), media reported on Wednesday.

As per details, the violence erupted when a group of protesters gathered outside a police station in protest against the "derogatory" post on social media which was made by a close relative of a local lawmaker, Congress MLA Akhanda Srinivasamurthy. The post has since been deleted.

Reacting to the post, a mob gathered outside the lawmaker's house and set two cars on fire. The protesters demanded the police to arrest the accused and award him punishment. However, instead of taking action against the accused, the police clashed with the protesters and opened fire on them. As a result, three people were killed while 110 others were detained.

Meanwhile, local media reported that Bangalore Police Commissioner Kamal Pant stated the lawmaker's relative had been arrested for the post, along with 100 others for rioting and arson. He said the situation was now under control.
