PESHAWAR: Mixed trend was witnessed in prices of essential food commodities including vegetable, sugar, live chicken/meat, flour, pulses and etc in the retail market, according to a survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Sunday.
The survey revealed that the price of live chicken/meat was substantially decreased in the local market as available at Rs116 per kg which was selling at Rs181 and Rs201 per kg a few weeks back.
Similarly, the prices of farm eggs remained unchanged as being sold at Rs110 and Rs120 per dozen. However, the price of sugar has surged up at Rs100 per kg which was selling at Rs95 per kg in the previous week.
Buyers have expressed serious reservations over unchecked prices of essential commodities, especially food grains and vegetables. Prices of veggies have touched a new peak, due to which is completely out of purchasing power.
For instance, the price of red potato has sharply risen at Rs90 per kg while old seasonable potato was available at Rs50-60 per kg.
Similarly, the price of peas has touched a new peak which is being sold at Rs250 per kg. Bitter gourd was being sold at Rs100-120 per kg, arvi at Rs100-110 per kg, cabbage at Rs100 per kilogram, cauliflower at Rs80 per kg, bringle at Rs60 per kg.
On the other hand, the price of onion has decreased at Rs40 from Rs80 per kg. Likewise, the tomato is being sold at Rs50 per kg against the price of Rs80 per kg in the retail market.
Similarly, ginger is being sold at Rs400 per kg which was selling at Rs500 per kg in the last week, whereas garlic was available at Rs200 per kg against the price of Rs250. Green chili is being sold at Rs200 per kg against the price of Rs240 per kg.
Likewise, according to the survey, long, apple and round gourds are being sold within the range of Rs70-80 and Rs90 per kg in the retail market. Cucumber was being sold at Rs50 per kg against the price of Rs40 per kg in the previous week. Lemon was being sold at Rs200 and Rs240 per kg.
According to the survey, the prices of pulses/food grains remained unchanged in the retail market. Good quality rice (sela) is being sold at Rs 140-150 per kg, while tota rice was available at Rs75-80 per kg.
The price of big-size white chana was Rs140 and Rs160 per kg, while dal chilka (green) was being sold at Rs140 and dal chilka (Black) being sold at Rs130 per kg. Moong was available at Rs140 per kg. Dhoti dal is being sold at Rs160.
According to the survey, the price of cooking oil/ghee remained high-side in the retail market as available within range of Rs180-190 and Rs200-220 and Rs230 per litre/kg.
A nominal decrease in price of fruits was witnessed in the retail market. Apples are being sold at Rs80-100 per kg against the price of Rs140-150 per kg, mangoes within range of Rs90-100 per kg against the price of Rs 120 and Rs150 per kg, apricot at Rs250 per kg against the rate of Rs160 per kg.
Similarly, banana was available at Rs100-150 per dozen against the price of Rs70-80 per dozen, black-coloured plums at Rs100-120 per kg, grapes are being sold at Rs300 per kg, mukesh melon was being sold at Rs150-200 per piece with different size and guava was available at Rs120-150 per kg against the price of Rs80 per kg.
Milk sellers have increased unilateral prices of milk and yogurt, opening defying the orders/fixed prices of Rs90 and Rs80 respectively. The survey was noticed that fresh milk was available at Rs130-140 per litre which was selling at Rs120 per litre against the aforementioned official prices.
Cow meat was available at Rs400-450 against the official fixed price of Rs350 per kg. Mutton beef was being sold at Rs1100 and Rs1200 per kg.
