ISLAMABAD: Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari on Tuesday said that an inquiry must be conducted into the extra-judicial killing of a young student, Hayat Baloch, by paramilitary personnel in Balochistan's Turbat city on August 13th.

"Absolutely unacceptable - the killing by FC of a young boy Hayat Baloch in Aabsir Turbat, in front of his family," Mazari said in a tweet.

"While the personnel responsible have been handed to the police & FIR registered, an inquiry must be held to find out how this brazen killing was allowed to happen," the minister said as she also shared the picture of Baloch's parents sitting on the ground with their son's body.

Meanwhile, the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights has summoned Inspector General (IG) Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan to brief the committee on the extra-judicial killing of Hayat Baloch.

Failures identified in standard operating procedures (SOPs) and action taken thereof in wake of this tragedy on August 28th.

According to the Turbat police, reportedly, an FC soldier had targeted the student near Absar Balochi Bazaar after two FC vehicles were targeted with a bomb attack in the area. Police have registered an FIR on the complaint of Hayat's brother against an unidentified FC soldier at the Turbat Police Station, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kech Najibullah Pendrani. The FC South has handed over the soldier, Shahidullah, to the SHO of Turbat police station after an internal inquiry.

"The killer of Hayat Mirza Baloch would be punished," SSP Pendrani said.
