ISLAMABAD: A petition was filed on Tuesday in the Supreme Court to take notice of the delay by the federal government in taking over the three major hospitals in Karachi as directed by the apex court.
A petitioner Dr Ayesha Iftikhar of Jinnah Post Graduate Medical College (JPMC) Karachi, requested the apex court in her petition to implements its Jan 17, 2019 order regarding handing over the three hospitals to the Centre.
She contended that the delay in implementation of the court orders was tantamount to contempt of court, as it had ordered the provincial government of Sindh to hand over the hospitals - Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Karachi, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Karachi, and the National Institute of Child Health Karachi, - to the federal government.
She also pleaded the court the salaries and other allowances employees of the hospitals employees should be increased, besides filling the vacant posts.
She also said that there was no seniority list of hospital employees, which was also a big issue as there was no procedure for promotion of the employees based on seniority lists like all other government institutes.
She made Prime Minister Imran Khan, federal secretary cabinet, chief secretary Sindh, secretary finance, federal health ministry and the secretary law and justice, and Accountant General for Pakistan as respondents in her petition.
