KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 95,968 tonnes of cargo comprising 62,211 tonnes of import cargo and 33,757 tonnes of export cargo including 4,045 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargos of 62,211 tonnes comprised of 30,836 tonnes of containerised cargo; 11,726 tonnes of bulk cargo and 19,649 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 33,757 tonnes comprised of 12,811 tonnes of containerised cargo 7,632 tonnes of general cargo; 12,314 tonnes of bulk cargo and 1,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,045 containers comprising of 2,448 containers of import and 1,597 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 482 of 20's and 979 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 04 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 233 of 20's and 332 of 40's loaded containers while 208 of 20's and 246 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were four ships namely Saxonia, Carl Schulte, MT Lahore and Tabemacle Prince carrying containers, oil tanker and cement respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were six vessels carrying containers, oil tankers, clinkers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 196,517 tonnes comprising of 147,466 tonnes of import cargo and 49,051 tonnes of export cargo including 3,175 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 147,466 tonnes includes 6,280 tonnes of LNG; 41,500 tonnes of gasoline; 60,780 tonnes of coal; 10,500 tonnes of palm oil; 862 tonnes of palm kernel; 8,500 tonnes of soyabean; 1,678 tonnes of chemical and 17,366 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 49,051 tonnes includes 5,125 tonnes of cement; 967 tonnes of steel coil and 42,959 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,175 containers comprising of 914 containers import and 2,261 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There were three ships namely Maersk Seletar, Al Mahboobah and Golar Maria carrying containers, chemical and LNG respectively sail out to sea on Thursday morning, while five more ships namely Symi, Bulk Friendship, Beks Halil, African Baza and Sovereign carrying contain ners, coal, cement and gasoline respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of twelve ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, cement, soyabean, LNG, gasoline, palm kernel and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as twelve vessels viz. King Cotton, Sea Melody, Star Monica, Tron Gan, Kamari, Tiger Winter, Valiant Splendor, Gas Amazon, BW Colombia, Sereno, Al-Salam-II and Sea Hazel carrying steel coil, coal, cement, chemical, canola, LPG, gasoline, gas oil and crude oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were six ships viz. MOL Generosity, OOCL Atlanta, Maersk Brooklyn, Star Monica, Tiger Winter and BW Colombia carrying containers, coal, chemical and gasoline respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Thursday. There are three ships namely MOL Generosity, OOCL Atlanta, Maersk Brooklyn carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday.
