KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar along with Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) senior deputy convener Amir Khan and former provincial minister Syed Abdul Haseeb, met renowned scholar Allama Shehanshah Hussain Naqvi and assured that local bodies will fully facilitate processions of Muharram-ul-Haram like previous years.
"Inter sectarian harmony and unity is need of the hour to fail evil designs of the extremists. All civic institutions should perform duties so that the people could perform their religious obligations properly," mayor said. He added that creation of new district in Karachi was injustice with the city, adding that his party would not tolerate further division of Karachi.
The mayor was of the view that the provincial government wanted to divide vote bank of the MQM-P. This is not an administrative decision but a political one which aimed at political gain for the PPP, he added. Allama Shahenshah Naqvi said a public gathering should be held for issues of Karachi after Muharram-ul-Haram, adding that they would support the gathering.
