ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday decided to convene a multi-party conference of like-minded opposition political parties to chalk out a strategy against the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), it is learnt.

According to the sources, Mualana is not happy with top opposition parties like Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) for not consulting his party leadership over recently legislation pertaining to Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

They said that JUI-F chief is quite upset and not happy with PML-N and PPP leadership over the passage of the FATF-related bills from the parliament and has linked his participation in PPP and the PML-N-led multi-party conference with an explanation.

The heavyweight cleric has categorically conveyed to the top leadership of both PPP and PML-N to explain what barred from consulting his party at a time when they agreed to support the all important legislation on FATF.

The sources said that the JUI-F leadership has also asked as to why they were not invited to attend meetings with Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser on the legislation process and even the opposition leader did not protest over the move.

Rehman has decided to convene a multi-party conference of like-minded opposition parties on his own as the sources said except PPP, all other opposition groups have assured to JUI-F chief to ensure their participation in the moot.

Despite being angry for ignoring his party in the legislation process, the JUI-F chief has also spoken to top PML-N leaders including Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and conveyed his reservation as to why they could ignore him at such a crucial time.

The sources further said that there are also chances of a meeting between Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Shahbaz Sharif to resolve the issues, as neither PPP nor PML-N can afford to lose the support of Maulana as he's been playing an important role in pressuring the government.
