PESHAWAR: Upward trend in prices of important kitchen items, including live chicken/ meat, sugar, flour, packed milk, cooking oil, vegetable pulses, and fruits and others was witnessed in the retail market, according to a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday.

The survey noticed that the price of live chicken/meat has increased at Rs121 per kilogramme which was selling at Rs116 per kilogramme in the previous week. It added that a dozen of farm eggs are being sold at Rs100-110. Cow meat was available at Rs400-450 against the official fixed price of Rs350 per kilogramme. Mutton beef was being sold at Rs1100 and Rs1200 per kilogramme.

Price of sugar has touched a new peak as available at Rs117 per kilogramme against the price of Rs100 per kilogramme in the last week, the survey revealed. Likewise, the price of flour has also risen sharply in the retail market as available at Rs70-75 per kilogramme amid the looming flour crisis in the provincial metropolis here.

According to the survey, the price of cooking oil/ghee remained high-side in the retail market as available within range of Rs180-190 and Rs200-220 and Rs230 per litre/kg.

An increase from Rs5 to 10 per litre was noticed in packed milk in local market whereas fresh milk also available Rs130-140 per litre against the official fixed price of Rs90 per litre.

The survey noticed that the prices of fruits have also remained 'sky-high' in the local market. Apple is being sold at Rs100-120 per kg, mango was available at Rs120-150 per kg, banana at Rs60-70 and Rs80-100 per dozen, apricot at Rs250 per kg, guava at Rs120 per kg, peach was available at Rs150 per kg, and grape was being sold at Rs150-200 per kg.

According to the survey, prices of veggies have also touched a new peak, due to which is completely out of purchasing power. The price of red potato has sharply risen at Rs100-110 per kg against the price of Rs80 per kg while old seasonable potato was available at Rs50-60 per kg.

Similarly, the price of peas was being sold at Rs250 per kg. Bitter gourd was being sold at Rs100-120 per kg, arvi at Rs100-110 per kilogramme, cabbage at Rs100 per kg, cauliflower at Rs80 per kg, bringle at Rs60 per kg.

On the other hand, the price of onion has decreased at Rs40 from Rs80 per kg. Likewise, the tomato is being sold at Rs50 per kg against the price of Rs80 per kg in the retail market. Similarly, ginger is being sold at Rs400 per kg which was selling at Rs500 per kg in the last week, whereas garlic was available at Rs200 per kg against the price of Rs250. Green chilli is being sold at Rs200 per kg against the price of Rs240 per kg.

Likewise, according to the survey, long, apple and round gourds are being sold within the range of Rs70-80 and Rs90 per kg in the retail market. Cucumber was being sold at Rs50 per kg against the price of Rs40 per kg in the previous week. Lemon was being sold at Rs200 and Rs240 per kg.

According to the survey, the prices of pulses/food grains remained unchanged in the retail market. Good quality rice (sela) is being sold at Rs 140-150 per kg, while tota rice was available at Rs75-80 per kg.

The price of big-size white channa was Rs140 and Rs160 per kg, while dal chilka (green) was being sold at Rs140 and Dal Chilka (Black) being sold at Rs130 per kg. Moonge was available at Rs140 per kg. Dhoti dal is being sold at Rs160.
