KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday dismissed the bail plea of Sindh Secretary of Local Government, Roshan Ali Sheikh, in the illegal allotment of land case, which led to his arrest in the court premises at the hands of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

A division bench of the SHC comprising Justice K. K. Agha and Justice Zaulfiqar Sangi rejected the bail plea of 10 accused, including Sheikh, in the case. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the Sindh Board of Revenue had filed a reference against Shaikh and others, accusing them of allotting 265 acres of government land illegally. The land in Landhi was illegally allotted to the small cottage industry.

The bench also turned down his plea for review of its order for bail before arrest to approach the apex court. The bench stated in its order that the LG secretary and nine others were involved in illegal land allotment and misused their powers as government employees. This has inflicted a heavy loss on the national exchequer, it added.

The bench refused to further conduct proceedings on the bail petitions filed by the accused, saying that it already rejected them and directed the authorities to arrest the LG secretary. Following the orders, a team of NAB arrived at the court and arrested Roshan Sheikh.
