KARACHI: Three children lost their lives as heavy rains continued to wreck havoc with the city life on the 2nd consecutive day, turning roads and streets into rivers, brining power supply, rails and road services to a halt on Tuesday.

The grim situation prompted Sindh government to declare Rain Emergency all over the Sindh under which leaves of government employees have been cancelled and the PDMA and Relief Commissioner have been activated to start relief and rehabilitation work.

Various city neighborhoods particularly the low-lying areas facing an urban-flood like situation, as filthy rain water entered homes and markets, depriving the poor families of their valuables. Surjani Town and Orangi Town have been flooded once again as people started to evacuate from their homes themselves. Malir, Korangi, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Saadi Town, Liaquatabad, Federal B Area, North Karachi and North Nazimabad were some of the heaviest hit areas during the last 24 hours. Korangi Causeway was also flooded. Met forecast more rains with wind and thundershowers in Karachi and Hyderabad on Wednesday today. As per police and rescue sources, three children lost their lives in rain-related incidents. A teenage boy drowned in a pond created by accumulated rainwater in Musharraf Colony.

Police said a boy Muhammad Asif son of Fayyaz died due to electric shock at Haroonabad, Pak Colony near Jahan Abad Chowki. His body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.

Akash, 10, son of Wazir Muhammad dead and his mother Shabana injured as wall of their home collapsed at Jogi Mor Waqar town in the limits of Shah Latif police station. The body & injured were moved to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.

Eidhi volunteers claimed to have rescued some 7 children who had drown in a rain drain in Landhi.

KE said low-laying areas including Surjani, Gharo, Gadap and Korangi remained worst-affected due to poor drainage which resulted in urban-flooding creating serious challenges for K-Electric teams. Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Shah Faisal Colony, Azeempura, DHA, Mehmoodabad, Akhtar Colony and Clifton continued to witness heavy rainfall

KE was forced to suspend power to over 400 feeders in order to ensure public safety. Some KE installations and infrastructure were also affected due to urban flooding and power restoration efforts could not be completed till filing of the report.

"Nothing exposes PPP's Sindh govt more than Karachi Rain. The city which contributes 95 percent of the provincial revenue is left to the whims of those who have no electoral mandate of the city. May Allah save Karachi," said a citizen Malik on twitter.

Nearly two dozen cars and motorcycles were damaged as a landslide struck near Gulistan-e-Johar's Munawwar Chowrangi. The site is said to be used as a parking lot by residents of the neighbouring area residents.
