In order to meet the local wheat shortage a ship carrying 60,000 tons of wheat will arrive at Karachi port today (Wednesday), the federal cabinet was informed.

Meanwhile, another cargo vessel carrying 60,000 metric ton wheat will reach the docks on August 28. In the month of September, around 0.5 million tons of imported wheat will be available in the country, the cabinet was told.

During a federal cabinet in Islamabad chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, the cabinet was informed that government steps have resulted in a reduction of wheat prices.

Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar said the prices of sugar are being reduced by Rs4 to Rs 5 per kg, with a positive trend witnessed in the private sector regarding the import of sugar.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to devise short, medium, and long term policies to ensure the availability of ample food commodities across the country to meet the needs of people.

Earlier, Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar said prices of wheat and sugar would come down soon after the landing of imported wheat and sugar in the country. He said after landing of imported wheat and sugar in the country, the hoarders who were holding huge stocks of the commodities would also start releasing the stock in the open market that would help further reduction in the prices of wheat and sugar.

Azhar said the price of sugar was already on a downward trend after the reports of sugar being imported.
