LAHORE: The city police with the help of the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CP&WB) and the Social Welfare Department are going to launch an operation against beggars, drug addicts and vagrants.
Presided over by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Zulfiqar Hameed, the decision was taken during a meeting with CP&WB Chairperson Saira Ahmed and Lahore Beggars' Home head Rubina Shehzadi besides other senior police officers concerned here on Tuesday.
The meeting considered various proposals including how to launch the operation and take action against the leaders of beggars, prevention of drug addiction and keeping minor children, being used for begging, in rehabilitation centres for at least one month.
The participants agreed that the children who will be rounded up during the operation would be handed over to the CP&WB while adults would be sent to the Beggars' Home Lahore for taking further necessary actions.
Speaking on the occasion, the CCPO directed SSP (Operations) Faisal Shehzad to check criminal history available on the system of drug addicts and beggars and constitute teams at divisional levels for launching an aggressive operation against them.
