KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari commended the Karachi Transformation Plan announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan and termed it a beginning.

Bilawal Zardari said that out of the amount announced by the federal government, Rs 800 billion is for the projects of Sindh government. He further said that the remaining Rs 300 billion is for projects of the federation and called the Rs 1.1 trillion package a good start for the development of the city.

The PPP chairman has said that while it was just the beginning, it was expected of the federal government to contribute more to address chronic issues facing Karachi.

Bilawal Bhutto said the destruction of Karachi is a national issue and it requires collective cooperation to transform and revive the metropolis.

"The federal government is willing to work in Karachi and that is what we need right now too," the PPP chairman said, adding that the monsoon rains have caused vast damages to the city.

Bilawal demanded the kind of cooperation from the federal government that was required in the wake of the Sindh floods of 2010. He said the PM needs to do what was done in the year 2010.

He advised that the government needs to take care of farmers who have suffered losses due to torrential rains.

He concluded that while his party was working in line with its vision in ensuring relief to the victims, it was beyond their capacity to do it all on their own.

Meanwhile, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has demanded that in view of the situation after the recent monsoon rains across the country, the next session of National Assembly should be postponed.

According to a statement issued by Pakistan People's Party, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the members of the National Assembly are engaged in their respective constituencies "serving the rain-affected people".

The PPP chairman said that "PPP is not against any legislation that forwards the national interest but in the current situation, the aim of all political parties in the government and the opposition should be to reach out and help the rain victims".
