Hundreds of Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) workers took out a procession here on Wednesday to protest against the ongoing load shedding and price hike of essential commodities. The procession led by Secretary General of Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Central Labour Union Khurshid Ahmad and others marched through various roads of the city and ended at Lakshmi Chowk on McLeod road.
The rally passed a resolution urging the government to develop coal-fired thermal power houses using indigenous coal as proposed by eminent scientist Dr Samar Mubarakmand, along with hydel, coastal wind and sugar mills' waste raw material power stations on war footing. They demanded ban on import of luxury goods and closure of commercial markets at 8.00 pm, elimination of corruption in Discos, and suggested that transmission and distribution of electrify to be handed over to Wapda for good governance.
