ISLMABAD: The federal cabinet will discuss country's political situation, economic situation, and differences between the Centre and Sindh governments aired publicly after the announcement of Karachi transformation package and other current issues in a meeting scheduled today with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair.
There is also a possibility of discussion on taking over of K-Electric (KE) and its effects on future transactions. The cabinet will also discuss the effect of recent torrential rains in different parts of the country and a possible relief package for those affected.
The abduction of SECP joint director and a former reporter of a private television channel Sajid Gondal from the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) will also be discussed in the meeting, with Minister for Human Right Dr Shireen Mazari having already condemned the incident. The abduction was also a serious cause for concern in the diplomatic community and international organizations.
The current price trend of essential items, with special reference to import of sugar and wheat and its impact of domestic prices will also come under discussion.
The cabinet will appoint chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary (Education) Peshawar, a BS 20 officer Qaisar Alam as the Chairman Federal Board Intermediate and Secondary Education Islamabad on deputation for a period of three years.
The cabinet will approve posting of Amjad Iqbal Ranjha D&SJ and Muhammad Iram Ayaz, against the posts of judge Banking Court, Rawalpindi and Lahore respectively.
The cabinet will also consider Nepra's annual report 2018-19 and State of Industry Report 2019. The issue of appointment of appellate members against Nepra's decisions is also expected to be considered as the Supreme Court recently issued directions to the federal government.
Ratification of the decisions taken by the ECC and Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) on Aug 27 was also on the agenda. The members will give their observations on their areas of concerns in decisions.
Other agenda items of cabinet are as follows: (i) key economic indicators;(ii) Mass Transit Authority (ICT) Ordinance ;(iii) distribution of functions between CDA and MCI in the light of Mustafa Impex case; (iv) reconsideration of cabinet decision of 2005 regarding installation of electricity meters in ICT;(v) presentation on the status of encroachments on the Margala Road, Islamabad ( cabinet direction in its meeting of August 11, 2020) and (vi) presentation on PPRA rules and comparison of process in public and private construction.
