KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 168,589 tonnes of cargo comprising 120,899 tonnes of import cargo and 47,690 tonnes of export cargo including 6,721 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargos of 120,899 tonnes comprised of 58,227 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,120 tonnes of bulk cargo; 13,608 tonnes of wheat and 41,944 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 47,690 tonnes comprised of 28,591 tonnes of containerised cargo; 70 tonnes of bulk cargo; 15,974 tonnes of clinker; 200 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 2,855 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 6,721 containers comprising of 3,855 containers import and 2,866 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,282 of 20's and 1,204 of 40's loaded while 119 of 20's and 23 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 763 of 20's and 250 of 40's loaded containers while 889 of 20's and 357 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were three ships namely CSAV Tyndall, TRF Kristansand and Golden Leaf carrying containers, chemical and DAP respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were six vessels viz. Wan Hai-611, Paris Express, CSL Sophie, Charlotte Schulte, Christina Selmer, Tabernacle Prince and Coventry carrying containers, cement and wheat respectively currently at the berths.

There are two ships namely Ubena and MT Shalamar carrying containers and oil tanker respectively expected to sail on Wednesday while another ship namely Seacon-6 carrying containers is expected to sail on Thursday.

There are eight vessels viz. Diyala, Moen Island, Chemroad Rose, MT Quetta, Linus-P, Inredible Blue, NACC Poros and Filia Glory carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical, cement and clinkers respectively due to arrive on Wednesday while three more vessels viz. MSC MariaLaura, Dubai Charm and KSL Dan Yang carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively are expected due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 175,858 tonnes comprising 146,273 tonnes of import cargo and 29,585 tonnes of export cargo including 2,723 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 146,273 tonnes includes 51,430 tonnes of coal; 33,722 tonnes of LNG; 3,166 tonnes of LPG; 7,000 tonnes of palm oil; 15,000 tonnes of canola; 7,455 tonnes of gasoline and 28,500 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 29,585 tonnes includes 6,348 tonnes of cement; 23,237 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 2,723 containers comprising of 1,500 containers import and 1,223 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There were two ships namely Kamari and Milaha Raslaffan carrying cement and LNG respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning, while three more ships namely Diyala, White Purl and Asia Inspire carrying containers, LPG and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of twelve ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, cement, canola, LNG, LPG, gasoline and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as twenty vessels viz. Jeppeson Maersk, Adames, Izumo, Han Hai, KSL Don Yong, Al-Bion Bay, Amestel Seagull, Karimu, Agmars, Maotiga, Hasan, YM Stum, YM Pacific, Tomson Gas, Gas Zous, Nord Venus, Cordula Jacob, Aponia, Chemroad Wing and Jal Pari carrying containers, general cargo, steel coil, coal, cement, chemical, soyabean, canola, LPG, gasoline, gas oil and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were four ships viz. Express Guernsey, Han Hui, Amestel Seagull and Jal Pari carrying containers, general cargo, coal and palm oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Wednesday.

There are two ships namely Express Guernsey and CMA CGM Ivanhoe carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday.
