ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) strongly condemned the horrific incident of rape of a woman in front of her children on the Lahore motorway, and demanded that the culprits must be punished according to the law.
"The statement made by the CCPO Lahore in this regard is condemnable. The accused are being facilitated. The facilitators of the CCPO and the facilitators of the accused should also be brought to book. The gang rape incident on the Ring Road has brought to the fore many troubling details of failure by law enforcers but a disturbing faultline of shocking prejudice in high places to the surface," the PPP leaders expressed these views, while addressing a joint news conference on Friday.
"We appeal to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of this incident. In front of the children in the state of Madinah, their mother was raped, but why didn't the mechanics of the state of Madinah come out?," PPP Central Secretary Information Nafisa Shah, Deputy Secretary Information Palwasha Khan and Punjab Parliamentary Leader Hassan Murtaza made the remarks in the press conference.
Dr Nafisa Shah said that the conditions of the new Pakistan were such that half of Pakistan had been submerged in floods and the rest of Pakistan had witnessed a horrific incident on a motorway.
The accused should be punished severely according to the law, she said.
She said that the statement made by the CCPO Lahore was condemnable and the accused were being benefited and facilitated. She claimed that the minister and advisor of the government facilitated the CCPO.
She said that facilitators should also be brought to book along with the criminals.
She said that nowhere in Pakistan was the honor of women safe.
The PPP information secretary said that neither we demand public execution of the culprits nor we want to politicize the tragic incident.
She said that one minister said on TV, "It's not illegal. How can we take action?"
We demand that the facilitators also stand in the dock with the criminals, she said.
She said that Prime Minister Imran Khan used to say that he would not leave thieves and robbers in the state of Madinah.
"The condition of the new Pakistan is that dacoit rule is established everywhere."
Palwasha Khan said that in this country not only women but also men are in the same situation.
She said that there had been a revolt in the police in Punjab.
She said that the statement made by the CCPO Lahore had never been heard before.
She said that if such an incident had taken place with a woman in the house of Mirza Shahzad Akbar, then what would have been their attitude.
The PPP leader said that the worst joke was being made in the name of the state of Madinah.
She said that citizens of Punjab, the KP and Balochistan should protect themselves.
She said that look at the indifference of the prime minister of the country who did not make a single statement in support of the woman.
