KARACHI: The rain and flood in monsoon season this year caused heavy human and financial losses with more than 150 deaths and over two hundred and eighty one thousand housing units damaged and destroyed in Sindh, says the report of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

According to the report, the rains and flood in the province also badly affected the 1.1 million acres of crop area in the province. The crops areas have been mostly affected in Umer Kot, Mirpurkhas, Badin.

The report disclosed that more than 171,000 housing units were partially damaged whereas over 110,000 housing units were completely destroyed during the rains and flood in the various areas of the province. Umer Kot, Mirpurkhas and Badin recorded the highest number of houses damaged or destroyed.

The rain and flood related assessment of losses and damages has been carried out in twenty nine districts of Sindh spanning over the period from start of July to mid of September this year.

It revealed that rains and flood affected 2.4 million population of Sindh and almost 200 camps have been established as part of relief purposes. The most affected population was reported in Umer Kot, Mirpurkhas, Badin and Dadu districts of the province.

The deaths caused by rains and flood stood at 151 whereas 115 persons were injured. More than 48000 cattles also perished due to rains and flood in the province. The highest number of death were reported from District East Karachi at 17 followed by district Tharparkar where 15 persons died in rains and flood.

Umer Kot, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Badin and Sanghar remained the most affected districts in rains and flood by registering the high losses and damages.
