KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 155,477 tonnes of cargo comprising 121,364 tonnes of import cargo and 34,113 tonnes of export cargo including 5,926 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargos of 121,364 tonnes comprised of 50,949 tonnes of containerised cargo; 17,711 tonnes of bulk cargo; 8,263 tonnes of DAP; 14,561 tonnes of wheat and 29,880 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargos of 34,113 tonnes comprised of 23,065 tonnes of containerised cargo; 200 tonnes of bulk cargo; 5,887 tonnes of clinker and 4,961 tonnes of talcum powder. As many as 5,926 containers comprising of 3,581 containers import and 2,345 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 969 of 20's and 1,216 of 40's loaded while 26 of 20's and 77 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 458 of 20's and 336 of 40's loaded containers while 281 of 20's and 467 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were three ships namely OOCL Chicago, Ginga Merlin and Grace carrying containers, oil tanker and clinker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels viz. Cosco Oceania, MT Karachi, STI Bosphorus and Dato Success carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There are two ships namely Filia Glory and Dato Success carrying clinker and general cargo respectively expected to sail on Friday. There are five vessels viz. Cosco Aden, Cosco Rotterdam, Hyundai Goodwill, Green Belt and Ince Kastamonu carrying containers, chemical and wheat due to arrive on Saturday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 191,423 tonnes comprising 157,361 tonnes of import cargo and 34,062 tonnes of export cargo including 3,393 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 157,361 tonnes tonnes includes 45,357 tonnes of coal; 36,327 tonnes of LNG; 16,200 tonnes of palm oil; 26,017 tonnes of gasoline; 1,103 tonnes of LPG and 32,357 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo of 34,062 tonnes includes 1,952 tonnes of cement; 32,110 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,393 containers comprising of 1,703 containers import and 1,690 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
There was one ship namely Chemroad Sea carrying palm oil sailed out to sea on Friday morning, while five more ships namely Maersk Brooklyn, Hasan, Emden-IV, Gas Arma and Cordula Jacob carrying containers, cement, LPG and gasoline respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of nine ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, cement, LPG, LNG, gasoline and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
As many as eighteen vessels viz. Izumo, Great Pioneer, Star Lotus, Yangze Venus, Banglar Ag Radoot, Tomson Gas, Gas Zous, Gas Amazon, Nord Venus, Leader, Aponia, Adamas-1, Victory, MT Shalamar, Melody, Anligani, Nord Harmony and Torm Atlantic carrying general cargo, coal, cement, veg oil, LPG, gasoline, gas oil, furnace oil, palm kernel and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
There were four ships viz. Izumo, Great Pioneer, Yangze Venus and Aponia carrying general cargo, cement, coal and gas oil expected to take berths at Multi Purpose Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Friday. There are two ships namely Jappesen Maersk and Diyala carrying containers due to arrive on Saturday.
