OIC calls on UN to urge India to halt its human rights violations in IoK

Voicing their concerns, the members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir has urged the United Nations to call on India to halt its human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK).

The OIC, in its informal meeting in New York, expressed concerns at India's continued violations in IoK, local media reported. The group urged that India should pressed to implement the UN Security Council resolutions.

The resoultions call for a poll to enable the people of occupied Kashmir to exercise their right to self-determination. In his address, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN Munir Akram conveyed Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood's message and said that the issuance of 1.6 million domicile certificates by the Narendra Modi's government is meant to change the demography of the occupied territory from a Muslim majority into Hindu majority territory.

Akram further said that the status of Urdu is also being changed under a new legislation by India to obliterate the Muslim identity of IoK.

Too little too late from the OIC! After many Arab members have either accepted or are about to accept Israel in their capitals and in their hearts, whatever they say about another longstanding problem in the Muslim world is immaterial. The whole world can see the fractured polity that is the OIC, with each nation state keen to preserve what it sees as its own paramount interests. Of course it will all amount to a zero sum game as our enemies will continue to play us against one another. Observe the dovetailing of the shia sunni conflict with the Arab Iranian divide. It seems that only when they are decimated through infighting and enemy fire will they finally take heed. That will be too late for most of us unfortunately.
